August 9th marks the 41st anniversary of the introduction of Internment without trial in the North of Ireland. Rather that bringing an end to civil disturbance Internment led to an escalation of violence that saw the six counties descend into an all out war that continued for decades. Despite the facts however lessons do not seemed to have be learnt with the use of 'selective' internment once again being used in this State as a political weapon. This panel discussion will look at how we can put an end to this practice in the context of moving on from a very violent past. Speakers include ex-prioners Tommy McKearney (former IRA hunger-striker, Long Kesh) and Mozzam Begg, a former detainee at the notorious Guantanamo Bay.
