Background

 

Ali Charaf Damache came from Algerian to live in Ireland in 2000. Between 2008 and the 19th March 2010 Jamie Paulin Ramirez is said to have lived in Colorado. While Colleen R. LaRose is said to have lived in Montgomery County, eastern district of Pennsylvania.   

 

Electronic Communications

 

It is said that on the 2nd or 9th January 2009 Demache communicated with LaRose saying that he wished to be martyred in the cause of Allaah and attain everlasting Paradise and freedom from the punishment of the grave and the Hell-fire. 

 

On the 17th July 2009 LaRose was questioned by agents from the FBI. She said that she had never asked for any money from anyone to us in terrorism, that she had never posted anything on any 'terrorist website' and that she was not the person who used the online username 'Jihad Jane'.

 

On the 30th July 2009 Jamie Pauline Ramirez, another US citizen, is said to have sent a message to LaRose saying , "I received a message from CC-2 (said to be Demache) stating that you need to talk to me urgently. What is going on sister?" Two days later on the 1st August 2009 LaRose is said to have sent a message to Ramirez saying that she will be travelling to Europe and that it will be like a home and a place for spiritual training. Ramirez is said to have responded by wishing that she could have also gone on the adventure with her young child. And on the 7th August 2009 it is said that Ramirez sent a message to LaRose saying Demache sends his blessings and wishes her a safe journey.

 

Charges

 

However, LaRose, is accused of travelling to Europe, "with intent to live and train with jihadists, and to find and kill RS#1 (believe to be Lars Vilks)" in a two week trip to Ireland.

 

It is also said that LaRose sent a message to a co-conspirator 1 (CC-1) and Demache saying that she would like to 'join other brothers' on the 30th August 2009, but it unclear what this means.

 

By 12th September 2009 it is said that Ramirez 'conspired to provide material support and resources to kill a foreign national'. This being the same day it is said that Ramirez travelled to Europe, "with minor male child with intent to live and train with jihadists."

 

Surveillance

 

In September 2009 LaRose was watched in Cork with a couple. The couple are Ghamraffan and Ilef Slimane. They had once owned a bakery but because of the way they were treated by the security services, they lost their business and reputations. They were two of seven that were arrested by Irish security services in this case.

 

It is said that LaRose received a message from CC-3 asking about Demache and 'the documents'. The meaning of this has not been made clear.

 

Arrest

 

In October 2009 LaRose was arrested by agents from the FBI.

 

On the 9th January 2010 Damache is said to have sent an electronic message or called Moughni to congratulate him on securing his place in the Hell-fire. It is also said that Demache threatened that if ever Moughni evercame near him he would hurt him as his hyprocrisy removes any bar from a Muslim hitting him. It is said that FBI agents between 9th January 2010 and 19th March 2010 looked into the said threats against Moughni. And on the 19th March 2010 agents from the FBI are said to have called Moughni saying they had a breakthrough.

 

On the 8th March 2010 to the 14th March 2010 Brian Chesser acted for Ramirez during her seven day detention in Ireland. She had been arrested because the security services said she had tried to kill a Swedish cartoonist. Agents from the FBI had spoke to Chesser before her released about her coming back home to the US and that there would be no charge for now but there may be later on.

 

From the 14th March 2010 to the 1st April 2010 agents from the FBI took Ramirez to Dublin. She remained there for a few weeks between the FBI agents' hotel accomodation and the embassy. Brian Chesser kept contact with Ramirez as she stayed with the FBI agents. Chesser made it clear to Ramirez that she should not go back to the US under any circumstances, after seeking legal advice from senior council.

 

Indictment

 

On the 1st April 2010 the indictment against LaRose and Ramirez was filed in the USA. By the 2nd April 2010 Chesser found that Ramirez was in the USA and formally charged. How she got there is unclear. She was arrested in Philadelphia on a flight from Ireland. The last time Chesser spoke to her was on the 1st April 2010.

 

Condition

 

LaRose is suffering from psychological illness. And Ramirez is indicted because of what LaRose has said. Demache may be used as a witness. Damache is detained in Ireland. His bail was refused and he faces only one charge. Damache's lawyer is concerned that the one charge and refusal of bail are being used as a way of getting Demache extradited to the USA. Demache is waiting for a trial which had been scheduled for November 2010. He faces a maximum sentence of five years if found guilty. Ramirez's lawyer is under a gagging order and therefore cannot say much in the open.
